FSA training provides food and drink companies in China the tools to drive sustainable production

3rd September 2019

Due to the growing interest in the FSA from food and drink companies operating in China, SAI Platform hosted an FSA Training Session in Qu’fu, Shandong on 15-16 August. Almost forty participants attended the training session following a previous member engagement event that took place earlier in February.

The training session was designed to provide members and other stakeholders the opportunity to learn how to better engage with their suppliers and farmers by using the FSA.

This FSA training session came at the right time”, commented Angela Hu, who was the lead trainer during the 2-day event.

Participants were very motivated to understand the use and benefits of the FSA and to learn from each other’s practices and experience” Hu continued.

The FSA training event is part of a SAI Platform initiative to create a supporting infrastructure for companies that want to use the FSA in China. It fits into SAI Platform’s wider ambition to support members and their suppliers in China across a range of issues impacting sustainable production. This massive consumer market and agricultural powerhouse is key to global agricultural sustainability.

The training sparked an interest among several members and their suppliers to further expand and customise FSA Tools and make them even more relevant to the Chinese market.  A SAI Platform Working Group is now being established to address specific Chinese requirements and challenges.  Interested members are being asked to get involved and contact SAI Platform.

Upcoming FSA Training Event, USA

The next FSA Training Event is scheduled on 1-3 October in Seattle, WA. There are 25 available seats for professionals who want to learn how to work with the FSA. SAI Platform is delighted that various members and FSA users will be there to share their experiences, including Ingredion, the Almond Board of California and Ocean Spray. The training includes an optional and highly recommended field trip to our member Yakima Chief to hear how they applied the FSA in their operations.
