Driving action on GHG emissions in the beef sector

13 Apr 2022Online

9am EST | 3pm CET

Join us for the first in a series of knowledge share webinars hosted by the European Roundtable for Beef Sustainability (ERBS). Four speakers will discuss on a range of topics focused on driving practical action for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the beef sector.

Mick Houlihan, Agri-Sustainability Manager Origin Green, will be sharing insight into the activities being led by Bord Bia working towards the ERBS outcome target of 15% reduction in GHG emissions by 2025.

Mick is an ERBS Board member, the Platform Representative for Ireland, and an active member of the ERBS Technical Working Group.

Karen Goossens from BovINE will be presenting on a range of research and innovations related to GHG action from across the BovINE network in Europe.

Karen Goossens is scientific collaborator at the cattle research group of ILVO (Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food) since 2014. She is involved in several ILVO research projects investigating the relationship between cattle nutrition and livestock emissions (Greenhouse gas and ammonia emission). Her main expertise is cattle nutrition and the study of dietary influences on the rumen microbiome composition. In the H2020 thematic network project BovINE, Karen is coordinator of the work package on environmental sustainability.

Brenna Grant, Executive Director of Canfax and Canfax Research Services (CRS), will be talking about the approach for GHG action in the Canadian beef sector.

Brenna is currently the Chair of the Statistics Canada Agriculture and Food Advisory Committee, and Chairs the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef’s Science Committee on Climate. CRS provides project management for the CRSB National Beef Sustainability Assessment.

Rebecca Harman will be sharing insight on the role of ecosystem services and the concept of farmers as land stewards as part of driving action on GHG.

Rebecca is the Partnerships and Community Fund Manager for Regen Network Development, Inc., a global marketplace and contracting platform for Earth’s ecosystem assets, services, and data. She has worked as a farmer, researcher, and soil conservationist in Texas, Tennessee, and Haiti. She is part of the Registry and Science team, where she works with land stewards, project developers, methodology developers and others, in creating open-source methods, user-governed infrastructure and creating pathways to participation in Regen Network.

The 4 presentations will be followed by an interactive Q&A.
