SAI Platform is partnering with the International Fertilizer Association (IFA) to bring together perspectives from across the agrifood value chain through a two-part webinar series exploring the opportunities, challenges and practical considerations associated with low-carbon fertilisers.

The first webinar, held on 9th September, examined how low-carbon fertilisers are moving from concept to reality, and the role they could play in advancing sustainable agriculture. what their adoption could mean for the future of sustainable agriculture. The IFA team provided an overview of low-carbon fertiliser production pathways, market developments and their potential contribution to decarbonising the agrifood sector.

The session also featured insights from SAI Platform member PepsiCo, an early adopter of low-carbon fertilisers. Drawing on its experience of working with value chain partners, including CF Industries, Fertiberia, Yara and TalusAg, PepsiCo highlighted the importance of collaboration between agrifood businesses, fertiliser producers and technology providers. Discussions explored the practical considerations of adoption, including how buyer demand can help support market development and contribute to addressing Scope 3 emissions.

The second webinar, taking place on 12th November, will build on these discussions by focusing on practical applications and lessons learned from implementation. Featuring perspectives from FertigHy and McCain Foods Limited, the session will examine the realities of adopting low-carbon fertilisers across agricultural supply chains, including key opportunities, implementation challenges and considerations for scaling adoption.

Speakers Paola Baldivieso Freitas, Sustainability & Decarbonisation Manager at FertigHy, and Michael Copas, Senior Manager, Global Agronomy at McCain Foods Limited, will bring insights from both the fertiliser industry and an agrifood business perspective. Designed as an interactive, discussion-led session, the webinar will also give participants the opportunity to share experiences, raise questions and learn from one another.

Through this series, SAI Platform aims to foster knowledge sharing and informed discussion among its members, helping organisations better understand emerging approaches to low-carbon fertilisers, navigate implementation challenges and identify opportunities for collaboration across the agrifood value chain.
