The European Roundtable for Beef Sustainability (ERBS) has launched a new initiative aimed at tackling one of the most pressing questions in agriculture today: how to fund the transition to more sustainable practices.

While interest in sustainable farming continues to grow, many businesses and farmers still struggle to navigate the complex landscape of financing. Questions remain around where funding is available, how to access it, and what barriers stand in the way. The ERBS believes that clearer answers and practical tools are therefore, urgently needed.

To help close this gap, the organisation has introduced the Finance Drivers Project, a collaborative effort to gather and share knowledge that can unlock investment across the beef sector. The project will provide ERBS members with a practical resource: a Toolbox of Options for Financing the Transition. This guide will include:

The aim is to equip members with the insight and confidence to explore new value chain structures and partnerships that make sustainable investment more accessible.

The ERBS is working with sustainability consultancy Promar to deliver the project. The team is led by George Peart, Principal Sustainability Consultant, alongside Wiebke Praeger, Navjot Gill, Yael Giesmann, and Edwin Reyes each of whom bring a wide range of expertise in agriculture, finance, and environmental strategy.

Beyond supporting its members, the ERBS hopes the findings will help shape broader conversations across Europe, identifying gaps in the system and influencing networks that can drive lasting change.

As with all ERBS initiatives, the Finance Drivers Project is closely aligned with the organisation’s 2030 Targets, reinforcing its commitment to a more sustainable and resilient beef sector.
