In a further step towards scaling regenerative agriculture across the food and beverage industry, SAI Platform has released three scientific resources, developed in collaboration with leading research institutions. These include a peer-reviewed methods paper for the Regenerating Together Framework (RTF) and two complementary research projects that together provide a foundation for science-based, farmer-centric agricultural transformation.

The methods paper was developed in close consultation with SAI Platform members and the Regenerating Together external stakeholder Advisory Board while the research projects were initiated in partnership with the National Institute for Agricultural Botany (NIAB) and students from Wageningen University and Research (WUR). Together, these resources underscore SAI Platform’s commitment to cross-sector collaboration for driving practical, regenerative outcomes at scale.

“We are proud to release these new resources, which root the Regenerating Together Framework in science. Our goal is to foster transparent dialogue with diverse stakeholders to co-create a shared vision for regenerative agriculture and drive the ongoing refinement of the framework”

Julia de Candido, Regenerative Agriculture Officer, SAI Platform.

Methods Paper: Giving regenerative agriculture an agronomic perspective: a proposed framework from the food and beverage industry

This peer-reviewed methods paper introduces the Regenerating Together Framework, offering full transparency on the methodology behind it. By openly sharing this foundation, SAI Platform seeks to actively engage farmers, academia, civil society, the public sector, and industry partners, fostering collaborative dialogue that drives continuous refinement. Designed as a starting point, the framework emphases the importance of collective ownership in defining regenerative agriculture and setting realistic, shared goals for its impact.

Research Project: Linking agriculture practices to regenerative agriculture outcomes

This empirical review, conducted in partnership with NIAB, investigates the relationship between specific farming practices and measurable regenerative outcomes. It provides an overview of the strength of a given practice’s impact on an outcome and the robustness of the supporting evidence. By enhancing the scientific foundation, this research supports more informed decision-making and helps practitioners prioritise practices that are proven to drive positive change.

Research Project: Towards Regeneration: Deciphering the relationship between agricultural practices and regenerative outcomes

Inspired in part by the NIAB research project, students from WUR explored the correlations between the implementation of agriculture practices and regenerative agriculture outcomes in arable and vegetable crop production in temperate climates.

With the release of these new open-source resources, SAI Platform is actively inviting further consultation and engagement with stakeholders across all agricultural production systems and value chains. Through collective effort, the industry can transform regenerative agriculture from a promising concept into a practical, scalable solution for sustainable food production.

To coincide with the release of these research papers, SAI Platform invites food and beverage industry professionals, academia, and the public sector, to join a public webinar on Tuesday, 8th July 2025.

This webinar will present the scientific foundation and pragmatic approach of the Regenerating Together Framework, showcase ongoing pilot projects, and outline next steps for its development. Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the RTF’s scope and structure and have the opportunity to engage in shaping the future of regenerative agriculture. Register now to be part of this important conversation.
