Overview

Regenerating Together Framework

A new Regenerating Together case study released today highlights the Harmony Program, by Mondelēz International, as a leading example of regenerative agriculture in action in wheat farming.

Co-authored by SAI Platform and Mondelēz International, the case study illustrates how SAI Platform’s Regenerating Together Framework (RTF) is being practically applied within the Harmony Program to support wheat farmers in the transition to regenerative practices.

Launched in France in 2008, the Harmony Program has steadily expanded across the continent and become one of Europe’s largest sustainable wheat sourcing initiatives. In 2024, it reached a major milestone with 100% of the Mondelēz International’s European wheat chain engaged into the Harmony Charter, fully anchored in regenerative agriculture. This program encompasses over 1,200 farmers across 7 European countries.

Indeed, since 2022, the company had taken a major step forward by strengthening the Harmony Charter to explicitly incorporate regenerative agriculture principles, reflecting a growing recognition of the role agriculture must play in addressing climate and biodiversity challenges.

“Partnering with our value chain for more than 15 years, we aim not only to future proof our supply chains but also to help transform European wheat farming into a more resilient and climate-positive system.”

Guillaume Sauzay, Harmony Program Lead

Developed in close collaboration with Mondelēz International wheat chain partners and scientists, the Regenerative Harmony Charter, fully aligned with the principles of the RTF, is grounded in rigorous context analysis. It prioritises measurable outcomes in five key areas:  soil health, biodiversity, water, climate and farmers livelihood – each of which is continuously monitored across thousands of hectares of farmland to demonstrate positive impact.

With a goal of growing 100% of the wheat used in its European biscuits under the Regenerative Harmony Charter by 2030, Mondelēz International is helping to drive the widespread adoption of regenerative practices including cover cropping, reduced tillage, and biodiversity-friendly field buffers across Europe.

“This case study shows how regenerative agriculture can deliver tangible benefits at scale. By applying the Regenerating Together Framework, Mondelēz International is tailoring practices to local contexts, engaging the full value chain, and restoring ecosystems, while building a more resilient future for European wheat farming

Julia De Candido, Regenerative Agriculture Officer, SAI Platform.

To ensure continued progress for the Harmony Program, Mondelēz International engages regularly with key stakeholders through biannual Wheat Chain Committees, the Harmony Tour field events, and the Harmony Council, which brings in external experts to help shape the program’s future.
