SAI Platform’s Beef Working Group is approaching a significant milestone along its successful 7-year history, as it prepares to initiate the European Roundtable for Beef Sustainability (ERBS). The official launch will take place on 10 October 2018, at the annual conference for the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (GRSB) in Kilkenny, Ireland. Remaining under the umbrella of SAI Platform, this newly formed body brings a significant development to the European beef sector. The ERBS heralds the beginning of a united European beef supply chain standing together to accelerate and communicate its sustainability objectives.
Patricia García Diaz, SAI Platform’s Beef Working Group Lead remarked – “SAI Platform is proud to host the ERBS and build on the great work carried out by the Beef Working Group since its founding in 2011. The creation of the European Roundtable for Beef Sustainability will enable us to reach out to multiple stakeholders resulting in a positive impact across Europe’s beef sector.”
The ERBS will be the only organisation of its kind in Europe for the beef industry and will enable members to exchange best practices and key learning points regarding beef sustainability challenges and solutions in a multi-stakeholder environment. The ERBS will focus on the development of a common agenda across Europe. Moving away from standards and compliance based approaches, the ERBS will have an outcome based approach and will recognise existing programmes and national schemes to demonstrate continuous improvement.
The European Roundtable for Beef Sustainability (ERBS) will be part of the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (GRSB) a global, multi-stakeholder initiative developed to advance continuous improvement in sustainability of the global beef value chain.
