SAI Platform’s 2021 Annual Event took place on 9 -11 June for the first time in a virtual and interactive online space. Sustainability practitioners, experts and representatives from around the world and across the agricultural value chain came together to give personal thoughts and insights on this year’s theme of recognising the value of agriculture for a thriving future

#SAIPlatform2021 gathered a broad audience of members and industry leaders with keynote speakers and panellists leading discussions on agricultural transition, the meaning of agricultural value and the necessary steps to ensure a thriving future.

Hosted by Sasha Twining, the theme: recognising the value of agriculture for a thriving future formed the basis for an interactive and honest-talking event examining key themes including regenerative agriculture, food-system transition, market incentives, and investment. Discussion points delved into the new dynamics between business, governance and societal pressure. 

Day one started with a passionate introduction from keynote speaker: Arianna Giuliodori, Secretary General of the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO), followed by two panel discussions examining the potential of regenerative agriculture and connecting the links in agricultural value chains. The day ended with a conversation between Alfonso Chico de Guzmán, farmer and President, AIVelAI and Sasha Twining followed by Rob Meyers, Vice President, SAI Platform who shared his reflections on the discussions.

Day two kicked off with insightful panel discussions the first focused on activating the agri-food industry to invest more in sustainability and the second looked into the changing nature of buying behaviour and the value proposition of sustainability. Jan Kees Vis closed the day with a keynote address on how there is no true impact without real transitions.

Day three concluded with the SAI Platform General Assembly and the opportunity for members to join break-out sessions focusing on the use of SAI Platform’s industry solutions namely the ERBS, the FSA and the SDP.
