New Publication – Sequestration Fact Sheet

7th July 2016

The productivity of our farmed land is of vital importance to all agriculture. One of the key elements of achieving the desired productivity is the effective management of our precious soils. Not only does improved soil quality enhance production, it also increases its carbon sequestration potential. Though a challenge to quantify at farm level, sequestration is a vital element in the reduction of GHG emissions. Livestock grazing systems are an important contributor to the sequestration of carbon.

The SAI Platform Beef & Dairy Working Groups have teamed up with scientists from INRAAFBI and TEAGASC and developed this fact sheet that explains in a simple way the science behind the need to improve soil quality to enhance both production and sequestration potential.
