Royal Canin and Soil Capital have completed a comparative pilot programme applying SAI Platform’s Regenerating Together Programme (RTP) to 47 farms in France’s Grand Est region. The initiative retrospectively assessed verified data from 2021 to 2024, covering over 6,000 hectares of winter wheat and grain corn. The objectives were twofold, first to evaluate the approach between Soil Capital’s Beyond Carbon methodology and the RTP’s impact areas soil health, biodiversity, water, and climate; and second, to demonstrate the feasibility of applying the RTP at scale within agribusiness supply chains.
The RTP provides a globally aligned definition and approach for implementing regenerative agriculture, offering companies a consistent way to monitor progress and support credible claims. Its four-step process: context analysis, outcome selection, practice adoption, and monitoring progress, ensures that regenerative strategies are tailored to local contexts while remaining scalable across supply chains.
Analysis of the 47 participating farmers revealed consistent improvements in the indicators identified for the impact areas:
- 63.8% improved cover crop area
- 38.3 % improved nitrogen efficiency (NUE)
- 44.7 % reduced pesticide impact (EIQ)
- 83% delivered moderate biodiversity benefits under the High Nature Value (HNV)
- indicator
- 48.9% increased the crops diversity over the period
- 70.2% improved GHG balance, reducing emissions per hectare.
Data collection combined farmer input with scientific research and open datasets, including EU soil degradation reports. Verification was conducted under ISO 14064-2 standards for carbon accounting, with third-party audits and alignment to the GHG Protocol. Soil Capital is now exploring certification pathways for biodiversity, water, and soil health.
The results of this pilot validate the feasibility of applying the RTP at scale and highlight its role in bridging corporate sustainability goals with on-the-ground agricultural practices. Royal Canin plans to expand the programme across its supplier network, while Soil Capital will extend RTP implementation to other corporate clients from 2026.
