SAI Platform Brazil Committee Announces Key Goals

1st September 2017

Following a successful 2017 Workshop in São Paulo, members agree on key goals and a method of governance for the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform Brazil Committee.

As part of the regional initiatives’ strategy, the Brazil Committee continues to enable the expansion of SAI Platform’s pre-competitive collaboration model and enhance the impact of sustainable agriculture at a global scale. The local implementation of sustainable farming practices adds value and benefit to our members and their supplying farmers. Through their global supply chains, they raise awareness and commitment for sustainable agricultural food systems.

PepsiCoNestlé, FirmenichCarrefour and FAI Farms have all agreed their participation to form the Brazil Steering Committee (SteerCo Brazil). Other key decisions by SteerCo Brazil and headed by Giovana Baggio, SAI Platform Advisory Council member and Sustainable Agriculture Manager at The Nature Conservancy Brazil (TNC), include:• focusing effort on different traceability models based on different commodity case studies;• benchmarking the achievements, challenges and apply them to other commodities;• exploring a collaboration model with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT);• working on a pilot project on the ground (to be agreed at the next meeting in São Paulo).
