SAI Platform Prepares the Way for the European Roundtable for Beef Sustainability

5th June 2018

BRUSSELS 5 June 2018 – SAI Platform’s Beef Working Group met in Rome on 8-9 May to discuss the progress and launch of the European Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (ERBS). Working under the umbrella of the SAI Platform Beef Working Group, the ERBS is a multi-stakeholder Roundtable which will be part of the Global Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (GRSB) and the first of its kind in Europe. The launch will officially take place at the GRBS Annual Conference, in Kilkenny, Ireland from 9-12 October.

The establishment of the ERBS marks a significant development for SAI Platform members and sustainable beef. It is through regional and national Roundtables that the on-the-ground work of developing key programmes and metrics to support a sustainable beef industry can be accomplished.

The meeting in Rome also discussed the independent recognition of national beef sustainability schemes. This is fundamental to beef sustainability and a key focus area for the Beef Working Group. A consensus was reached on an outline and structure for a framework which will support sustainable beef production in Europe and at the same time recognise local and regional differences.
