Overview

History

In 2002, three pioneering players in the food and beverage industry, Danone, Nestle and Unilever came together to create the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform (SAI Platform). Recognising that the issues they were facing were bigger than any one business could solve alone, they agreed to collaborate to find practical solutions to shared challenges and together, set the precedent for sustainable agriculture. Since then, SAI Platform has grown to 190 members globally.

Impact

Sustainable agriculture is now more relevant than ever before. Together with its 190 members, from across the entire value chain with headquarters in 30 countries globally, SAI Platform is driving positive change as the leading industry initiative for sustainable and regenerative agriculture.

Boilerplate

The Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform (SAI Platform) is a global, non-profit organisation leading the food and drink industry’s transition to sustainable and regenerative agriculture.

With 190 members spanning the value chain, from farmers to retailers, and strategic partners, from academia to NGOs, SAI Platform plays a vital role in convening stakeholders and facilitating the meaningful dialogue required to transform the global food and drink industry to source and produce more sustainably.

By fostering industry alignment and encouraging collaborative action, SAI Platform offers members a safe space to share expertise, pioneer practical solutions to address the pressing challenges facing agriculture and accelerate progress towards a more resilient food system.

The current focus is on beef, dairy and crops where SAI Platform has created globally recognised and industry aligned tools, including the Farm Sustainability Assessment (FSA), the Sustainable Dairy Partnership (SDP), the European Roundtable for Beef Sustainability (ERBS) and the Regenerating Together Programme (RTP). These innovative tools are empowering the industry to assess, validate and communicate sustainability performance while driving continuous improvement at farm level.
