Celebrating 20 years of SAI Platform

SAI Platform is proud to release a video celebrating its 20 year legacy in harnessing the collaborative power of its members to champion and develop sustainable agriculture.

Back in 2002, three major players in the food and drink industry, Danone, Nestlé and Unilever came together, realising that safeguarding agricultural resilience was an issue bigger than any one business could solve alone.

Despite being competitors, they made the decision to join forces to catalyse change. This radical idea put collaboration at the heart of SAI Platform and the non-profit organisation has spent the last twenty years working with farmers on the ground and stakeholders throughout the value chain to develop and champion sustainable agriculture.

SAI Platform has become an inclusive, pre-competitive space for people within the sector to share sustainable ideas, knowledge and best practices. This has led to collaborative partnerships that provide practical, on the ground solutions that can be used on a local, regional, and global scale.

Progress takes connection, collaboration and pioneering people and together, members have succeeded in building globally recognised industry solutions including the Farm Sustainability Assessment, the Sustainable Dairy Partnership and the European Roundtable for Beef Sustainability, as well as the new Regenerative Agriculture Programme, which is currently in development.

Today, SAI Platform’s work is more relevant than ever before. There is an urgent need to mitigate the impact of climate change and build on-farm and supply chain resilience by radically reshaping how we farm. SAI Platform is uniquely positioned as a convening power for the industry to take the lead in driving this transition to more sustainable food systems.

This is sustainable agriculture, powered by people.
