12th December 2022

“As one of Ireland’s leading dairy processing co-operatives, we’re developing our business sustainably so that we can continue to support our farm families, communities, and customers long into the future. Joining SAI Platform signals our commitment to sustainability and enables engagement, collaboration and knowledge sharing with other equally proactive agri-food businesses dedicated to best practice in this area”

Rory Farrell, Group Head of Sustainability, Lakeland Dairies.

Lakeland Dairies is a leading dairy processor on the island of Ireland, processing more than two billion litres of milk annually, collected from 3,200 family farms. The co-operative has eight manufacturing sites from which it exports an extensive range of dairy foods, consumer foods and food ingredient products to blue-chip customers in over 80 countries worldwide.  Lakeland Dairies also has extensive agri-business operations serving farmers with high quality farm inputs, technical advice, and assistance.

Lakeland Dairies is a verified member of the Bord Bia Origin Green sustainability scheme with clear objectives across three key areas: Raw Material Sourcing, Manufacturing Processes and Social Sustainability. All milk is sourced from farms that are accredited under the Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme or the Red Tractor quality assurance standard.

Lakeland Dairies provides support and advice to milk suppliers to improve the efficiency and sustainability of milk production at farm level. The co-operative has a dedicated water quality advisory service available to milk suppliers and supports the rollout of the Teagasc Signpost Programme, a holistic sustainability programme which aims to reduce emissions while also protecting and improving both water quality and biodiversity.
