We welcome the Norwegian Food Foundation as a SAI Platform member
10th February 2025
“We are eager to collaborate with stakeholders from around the globe to promote sustainability across the agricultural value chain. SAI Platform allows us to lead and learn in the development and implementation of standards that are practical on farm level”
Ole Erik Lunder, Head of Sustainability
The Norwegian Food Foundation is an independent organisation that aims to improve diversity, quality, and value in Norwegian food production. They manage three labelling schemes to inform consumers about the origin and quality of food.
The organisation consists of two key departments: quality and communication. The quality department manages a unique nationwide system called the Quality System in Agriculture, KSL in Norwegian. This system ensures that all 38,000 Norwegian farmers understand relevant rules and regulations and helps them apply this knowledge at the farm level. The system is recognised by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority and the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority. The communication department informs the public about Norwegian production.
Norwegian agriculture has high standards for food production, animal welfare, and environmental considerations. Quality assurance serves as the backbone for maintaining high quality across the Norwegian farming industry. Continuous revision and development are important to the Norwegian Food Foundation as a scheme owner. Various professionals and farmers within the food and agriculture sector participate in advisory boards, and the agricultural authorities are involved as observers.
The Norwegian value chain acknowledges the importance of sustainability. They believe that benchmarking the Norwegian Agricultural Quality Standard against the FSA standard will be crucial in building a sustainable Norwegian agriculture sector for the future.
